    The Econ-Alert, also known as the “Poor Man’s Perimeter Alarm Booby-trap, is a simple rubber housing which contains a firing mechanism that can attach to tree, post, or other object. When the firing mechanism is pulled from the housing by a line or trip wire, the spring-loaded striker sets off a loud report, both alerting to the presence of an intruder and scaring off the intruder. The report is achieved by utilizing inexpensive caps that are available from many sporting goods or toy stores, often for just 7 cents each. Can be used with most any kind of line. To use simply insert a cap into the metal piece, attach string to the metal piece and then slide the open metal piece into the rubber holder and attach it to something solid using the included screw. Tie the other end of the string across where someone will walk. Once the person walks through the string, it’ll pull the metal piece out of the rubber holder and the metal piece will spring shut setting off the cap.
